A reason to Celebrate – Fanaah – Calling all Jatin Lalit Fans The last music together - Part I

The journey and the duo

Born in the traditional Mewati Gharana, sons of the renowned classical singer Pandit Pratap Narayan, and nephews of musical Maestro Pandit Jasraj, Jatin-Lalit are indeed blessed with an envious pedigree. And the film industry is mighty pleased about the fact that the duo chose the field of film music to display their abundant talent besides the aforementioned pedigree. There are only few music director/duo who has been as successful in the recent times, as the youthful brothers, whose niche is melody and harmony packaged in the modern musical arrangement style. This, perhaps, stems from the fact that besides the traditional Hindustani formal music training (from their father and Pandit Ramprasadji),they were also encouraged to learn and play western musical instruments. Singing was also a childhood passion, a talent which they (albeit rarely) have utilised with great aplomb in films like "Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar," etc. They have been nominated and have won several prestigious awards each year since they started their career in 1990. Out of the innumerable examples are films like "Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar," "Khiladi," "Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge," "Khamoshi," "Yes Boss" "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai., Hum Tum a list which will never end. Jatin-Lalit’s most powerful assets remain their originality and fusion of east and west in their music, factors omnipresent in each of their musical scores. As they themselves modestly claim, "We are forever on a learning curve. Hopefully, our best is yet to come." For the sake of the Hindi film music, this should remain the sign of the times to come.

The journey started with a movie named “Dil hi Dil mein” which was a B/W movie starring Navin Nischol, Sarika, Sulakshana Pandit, Dr. Shreeram Lagoo, Vinod Mehra. Again it came and went off like a blink . My first experience of jatin lalit was courtesy “ Anand Milind” another well known Music Director at that age and of course the singer – “Abhijeet” The cassette was a Salman Khan Starrer “Baghi” remember ? Nagma was introduced in Hindi films thru this. They used to give sample music of the upcoming releases thru these cassettes and it was for the first time I heard “Bin Tere Sanam” . the year was 1991 and another great Music Composer Duo of our times have already started climbing their peak – Yes I am speaking about Nadeem Khan – Shravan Kumar Rathod
This was the year when they had one of their major hits of life time- “SAAJAN”
“Yaara Dildara” was a non starter at that point of time. Their fame to Glory came in the year 1992 and what a year that was . The entire country remembered their “Wadah raha Sanam – Khilari” got into “ Laveria – Raju Ban Gaya Jentleman” and got addicted to nonetheless “ Pehla Nasah- Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander” . Easily humable songs soothing music and somewhere making you dream has been the key features of the music. Initially after the release of Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander they were labeled as a true copy of “Anand –Milind” . But by the end of 1992 it was clear that new force has come who will reign the
Mumbai film Industry in the years to come
