The Twin Pair of Valentine's Day!!

Its called the Steak and Blow Job Day!! After some heavy duty stuff (beautiful no doubt and puts you into deep thought), here comes something most of you will be amazed to hear. I couldnt believe it myself when a friend of mine from the UK mentioned it. Then I did a google search and the results were amazing!!

Steak and Blowjob Day is a humorous parody holiday popularised by radio disc jockey Tom Birdsey in 2002, as a male version of Valentine's day. The day is supposed to be celebrated by women giving "their man" a high quality steak and performing oral sex on him. The day is marked as happening on March 14, a month after Valentine's Day. The holiday was created with some promotional intent by the radio station 103.7 FNX in Providence, Rhode Island.

The original message written by one Fin Barnes, of London, UK (and first circulated on the Internet in February 2002) states:
"Guys, you know the drill. Every 14th of February you get the chance to display your fondness for a significant other by showering her with gifts, flowers, dinner, shows and any other baubles that women find romantic. Every Valentines day you rack your brains for that one special, unique gift that will show your wife or girlfriend that you really do love them more than any other. Now ladies, I'll let you in on a little secret; guys really don't enjoy this that much. Sure seeing that smile on your face when we get it right is priceless, but that smile is the result of weeks of blood, sweat and consideration. Another secret; guys feel left out. That's right, there's no special holiday for the ladies to show their appreciation for the men in their life. Men as a whole are either too proud or too embarrassed to admit it.
"Which is why a new holiday has been created. March 14th is now officially "Steak and Blowjob Day". Simple, effective and self explanatory, this holiday has been created so you ladies finally have a day to show your man how much you love him. No cards, no flowers, no special nights on the town; the name of the holiday explains it all, just a steak and a BJ. That's it. Finally, this twin pair of Valentine's Day and Steak and Blowjob Day will usher in a new age of love as men everywhere try THAT much harder in February to ensure a memorable March. It's like a perpetual love machine!

"The word is already beginning to spread, but as with any new idea, it needs a little push to start the ball rolling. So spread the word, and help bring love and peace to this crazy world. And, of course, steak and bjs."

Happiness

"When you are joyous, look deep into your heart and you shall find it is only that which has given you sorrow that is giving you joy.

When you are sorrowful, look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight."

"The Prophet"- Kahlil Gibran

Dawn-Dusk & Hope

One fine day O I remember that was a Sunday
Life knocked at my door with baited breathe
As we embraced I was gifted the sun which was vermillion red
The brightness, the warmth, the passion of it all
I started to burn when destiny recalled
Nothing mattered, guess nothing ever will
Life gave me a gift & it was mine still
I asked my maker why games He played
"Dreams & Magic" with a wink He said
Dreams I realise I was dreaming a lot
What was "Magic"? I thought
Then I realised & I wondered in awe
My sun in my mirror is only what I saw
Now what I see is a shadow by my side
A shadow which accompanies me day & night
That day as life was passing by, it again knocked at my door
Promised me a full moon night the next time he visits my shore

One Day in the Life of Juan Pablo Aimar

The mobile was showing: "Ma calling", Juan became irritated and decided not to take the call. He cancelled the call and switched it to the silent mode. The image of his mother in his mind appeared, he felt sad for her and even on himself. Despite his eagerness to leave the city of Cali, he has not been able to do it, each of his friends had left for Bogota. He said to the imagined god in his soul: "Why is this injustice being done. I do not want to be called a mama's boy and remain in my hometown throughout my lifetime being a well-frog. Twenty-Four years of my life has gone living in this city where development has not happened. Even if I am late by fifteen minutes from my scheduled time, I am called up by my mother, I do not like to be interfered." The God inside him must have been bored-off by the complains of Juan and would have left him, without his absence.
Frustration and depression for Juan was a result of the longing of a person, his mother, who loves him more than anybody else.
Juan has a crush on a girl, Rennes. He just cannot figure out whether Rennes has any feeling for him or not, so hard to understand a woman thought Juan. In his passion, he always takes a detour on the way back from the University, where he and the girl worked. He wanted to spend the maximum possible amount of time with her, in his time spent with the Girl till he was rejected by her, Juan felt that he has learnt certain things, which has been through personal experience. First, time was so relative in love, the moments of togetherness with Rennes used to fly away and when Juan walked home from University, the road did not seem to end. He concluded that : "There should be a search for "that", something which is constant" and if the time spent with Rennes be measured against the time spent walking alone without Rennes on a path whose point-to-point distance is fixed, the first would be a smaller value than the second.
The entire goal of Juan for about Ten months that he was with Rennes, was to wait for the day to end quickly, so that the priceless moment of walking together with Rennes would arrive. His pleasure can be expressed as a mathematical function dependent on the decisions of Rennes, of whether to walk with him, or say no to him, by saying that she has other commitments. Again the decisions of Rennes are related to the potential suitors of her, whom Juan has identified as errors/virus in the mathematical function. Taking this mathematical function into mind along with the errors Juan had to iterate with the numbers that brought the maximum happiness for him. To do this Juan would devise his strategies for fighting the "battle for Rennes" by sending beautiful write-ups or spending money on good food, dressing himself up in expensive clothes or trying to prevent the potential suitors away. As time went on, Juan understood that he was fighting a losing battle, but anyways the post must be held on, even when the enemies are knocking on the door, so when Juan was finally brought down and shot at his post, his hurt self, learnt that it was not possible to hold a girl who is leaning away, she is like a sand, the more you tighten your fists the faster would it slip out. Juan left Rennes and moved on.
The mobile never showed: "Rennes Calling" the flicker of hope has not died, the soldier in him remained playing "The Lost Post". It never came.
Juan thought on an empty street of Cali, that for somebody he had once was ready to sacrifice evrything, apart from aleigience to Jesus, but he has been tossed out from contention when the final hour came. The love which he had for Rennes, proved to be useless, apart from that, it taught him few things, the love that his mother had for him was unconditional, just like he had for Rennes, but he was not prepared to accept that love. Maybe the love of the world flows like a concentric circle, without any meeting point.
The mobile showed : "Ma Calling", Juan kept the phone down and walked away.

Hey Anindya (Jamai babu),

How cud u say such a thing??.....You know it well that both of you(U and Suangana) are the most important ingredients in the recipe of the friendship between all of us.

Your statement "Seems age is catching up with me after all I am "Shadi Shuda" now ." reminds me of Shakespeare's famous saying
"To me, fair friend, you never can be old.For as you were when first your eye I eyed, Such seems your beauty still." .... ;-D

I will be there on Friday...100%.

House Warming Party

Guuuuuyssz.....(reminds me of Gargi)!! I'm back with all the more energy that all of you have written about. ANyway i wouldnt get into details about each one of you. Dont worry, that would come later ;) I couldnt miss on the opportunity to speak about each one of you. Its kind of diificult to type anything over here with Rajdeep, Nitin and Satya's 'Ma and Baba' and Hutum ( presently Nitin's wife) around. I certainly do not have the advantage of Satyaban's corner.

As of now, its great to be back at work. Well not at 'work' exactly, however i did miss all of you several times (not all the time). And it feels at home with the three brothers here downstairs, raj, doyel and priyanka.

Since Nitin is leaving, Ani and I have decided to throw our house warming party on this Friday. We can party late. Pls do not give me excuses of going home early. Patuli is actually not that far away. Its just a perception.

So ppl, jaldi jaldi sab haan kar do. SO that i can start making some arrangements. Afterall i have also become a 'grihini' (no idea if its the right word' now ;))

Love Madhushree Basu (Roy)

p.s Ani loves the last part for some wierd reason.

Views of Rajdeep

Hola Amigos!! I would start with an apology as I am the last person to give any input in our forum. Well, I just wanted to be a observer for sometime..lol..;)…

RDBfriendz

Rang De Basanti: Actually, reporters asked this question to Aamir in a press conference. Whathe told was pretty interesting. In the crew of the film unit, there was a person called GNAR (Russian Artist). He was a giant of 8'2" in height and 130 kilos of weight. He wasthe person, who lifted and threw Aamir, in the title song. The producer of the movie asked by some pundit to name his film after 11 days of shooting is completed. On 11th day of shoot, all crew had a heateddiscussion and argument on what should be the name of the movie. They decideto put chits and all stuff, but nobody agreed to one name. At that time Gnar was not feeling well and he was sleeping in his camp tomb (It was an outdoorshoot on the mountains). The pundit was on sets and they suggested that thecrew will visit Gnar and whatever will be first word(s) every person will speak after entering his camp - will be the name of movie. If more than onechoice then the the word(s) mostly spoken will be selected. And that will bethe last chance of titling the movie.Scene -2. All of the crew people walking towards GNAR's tent and opens the veil and ... All of them were surprised... Gnar twirling and trying to sleepon a 4 feet long bed. Everyone was shocked and in unison they shouted "ITNASA BED GNAR"..... silence...long silence.... It was said. and by all. They had to keep this name of the movie. But the producer and Director were very upset over the kind of namefinalized. They lost all enthusiasm and even thought of dumping theproject...Then came the advice from the great GNAR... The advice which was accepted by the producer with most happiness... He Said, "Why don't youreverse the title text....Don't kill me guys!!! Im also looking out for the one who sent it to me...

Anyways, I should thank Priyanka, Nitin, Satyaban and Doyel for taking the plunge in creating this awesome idea of a BLOG. Maybe it’s just an online canvas where we portrait our feelings, views and humor but to me it is much more than that. To me it’s a place where we can share our special moments in life with each other through out lifetime. The future is unpredictable…we don’t know where it takes us. For instance, our dearest buddy Nitin is moving out to Chennai. Maybe someday each one of us will be heading towards a different goal, but this forum can bring us together once again. I thank God for giving me the opportunity to be a part of your group. I never thought that I will get such a lovely company here in Ma Foi the day I joined. You guys are just wonderful!! Oh……!! I also want to thanks you all for those precious views on me…I will cherish them all my life. Okie, that’s it…now its time for me to put some input for all u guyz!!!

Let’s start with a one liner…lol

“Gorgeous, intelligent, kind, sweet, charming, witty, hilarious, friendly...well enough about ME! How are you?”

Rajarshi: The ‘diverse’ character. He can party hard and get a clean sign up from a client the very next morning. Well balanced person with a lot of depth. Though I have known him for short time, I think he can be one of my closest friends. After all he is the first person in Ma Foi to share a similar taste of music with me. Keep jamming dude!!

Doyel: The ‘bubbly’ character. She is very pretty, sweet yet very matured. I was extremely comfortable with her company from the day one itself. I really like her taste of dressing and piercing. I admire her way directing the driver when she is in a cab……… (I and Satyaban know)….hehehehhe…not to forget that she is serious worker (I have seen her getting dissolved in the pc monitor working). She is innovative, creative and can write extremely well. Hope to read some good ones in this blog. Someday I would love to get some training from her. Keep it going…..and keep writing!!

Nitin: “Jack of all trades and master of ALL”. Well, his knowledge is vast and deep. If one needs any information on any thing believe me he has the answer. To be very honest I have started respecting his views and ideas. Other than his high intellect, as a person he is very soft and sentimental which makes him so special. He is one of the best writers I have seen in my life and I strongly believe that someday he will make it to the top. Keep up the good work Nitin….we are proud of you….!!

Priyanka: The ‘workaholic’. Well it is really hard to project any views on her as I tend to discover new things every time I meet her. But truly I feel that, she has something in her which makes her very different and interesting. She loves adventures and traveling and something which not too many people will be interested in. Maybe this makes her different. Sometimes her mood swings very fast which can make one pretty confused at times (happened to me sometimes…..lol). Her bright and pretty smile tells all about her intelligence and sophistication. I think there are still a lot of things to be discovered about her. I wish her all the best in her life and career as she has got the potential.

Madhushree: The ‘kanch kanch’. Just kidding…..She is the first person I knew from Ma Foi. I should thank her as she recommended me for Ma Foi where I found all you guyz!! Well the only word which can describe her is ‘FUN’ and ‘PURE FUN’. She is energetic, graceful and confident. She is the best fit for BD……..with her flamboyant personality she can win each and everything she desires (Ani one of them). Just got married and seems more vibrant with her flaming red hair.

Suangana: The cutest of all. Always smiling…haven’t known her so well as I didn’t get so much opportunity to interact with that often. Miss her a lot since she left Ma Foi….. Satyban and Nitin always takes the advantage asking her to stand in-between them….not fair…lol…she is a very easy going person and always put up a cute smile on her face. After all “Suangana chara RDBfriendz hote pare na”….(hope u all understand this irony)

Satyaban: The “incredible hulk”. He has been my one of my closest friend in Ma Foi. He has still got that little Satyaban in him even though he grew vertically. But that makes him a special human being and I adore him for that (inspite of the blue bruise on my left arm). The best part I like about him is simplicity. Clean from the heart, smile on his face with a sparkling eyes….that what he is. When it comes to job, he is a sincere worker with loads of positive energy and enthusiasm. Sometimes I get to see a different Satyaban when he is under pressure (chaaap). Sometimes he can be extremely nagging and irritating when he wants a job to be done (reminds me of a little kid hanging to his dad’d pyajamas when he finds interesting toy in street stall). But inspite of all, I should admit that, I wouldn’t have enjoyed working in this team without him~!!

Someplace Else & Rahul (Am in a mood to Bitch Guys..no offence pls!!)

Well can anyone be more unplanned than us?? That day (last Sat,18th Mar) all of a sudden we found ourselves in Someplace Else...(for info I still remember that was the first place in the name of "disco" that I visited with my brother who is my constant partner since last 10years to enter discs infact we call each other "partners in crime" & my thethen roomie Nazbeen who is happily married like most of my other friends & settled in Dubai) ...no matter what the place is its just so much fun to be together...the best part was when we had to order cock/mock tails & being born adventorous by nature ordered "Red Bull" (also read an article on the same the other day in Business Worls & so wanted to form an opinion) & boy what an opinion I formed...felt like being chased by a bull & was missing a multicoloured scarf of one of my female colleagues to hide myself...;)

From there let me take you to the butt of all our "x" rated jokes..Rahul (I wont identify him as the readers will understand whom am I referring to)...see guys being of marriageable age(Am not very sure what is that age really is!!) everyone related to us tries their best at some kind of match making..the recent being our Priyanka (in this case thanks or should I say no thanks to newspaper ads) who was tried for Rahul..yes guys I am talking about the same "Red T-Pot Belly-Drunk after 1 drink" Rahul...this is called the height of "world is actually a very small place"...

LOL

History of our blog

Last Saturdays ‘s telegraph weekend edition carried an article on blogging that’s when I thought that I must share it with all of u abt having a blog of our group though I had read about blogs many years ago read others blogs but never thoughtof being a part of one, that very evening satya, doel, nitin and I were at inox city centre when I suggested the idea of having one. Doel was quite excited , nitin said he knew some one who had one and he could find a way to start one. I thought as usual it would be one my ideas which would not see the light of day like many before (from participating in the Kolkata marathon or going for a trip to goa with doel last year) fortunately for doel’s persistence guess being in HRd and following up for everything has become her natural self she wrote a mail to nitin to start the blog before he left for Chennai .He informed that thin client did not support the url so I thought of venturing into realm of creating (not being a thin client user)a blog which is so unlike me considering my it skils which is better than sudipto mullik’s I think.

Typed blog on google voila ! was directed to site which taught how to create a blog in3 steps, it was already 6.30 pm so had to complete it in jiffy but could not get a better name than RDbfriendz (sorry pals) speaks volumes abt my creativityRDB –a movie close to our hearts we all know why coz we had gone for the movie on 28th jan with a lot of prior planning for tickets, 3 of us ended up buying the music that very evening and a day does not pass by without hearing the anthem rubaroo on my laptop on popular request by my team mates..Friendz -apart from the relationship that bind us , has significance coz we bought the friends collection for mads& Oni coincidentally from the same shop where we bought the RDB cassettes.
Folks forgive me for not thinking abt a more creative /whacky name, of course doel famous for her creative writing and witty one liners was asked too, even she could nt think of something better at that time.
I have never seen any body laugh like her, the most amazing part is that even when she is down she can laugh out loud , always thought she should be in the media not only because she can write so well but because of her good looks too, though she is oblivious of it. Shares my passion for good food and good times in life Dear doel I think you should write a book some day, before I forget if any of you need a shopping guide no one like her. She ended up spending 55k in a year buying from west side itself. .

Madhusree – love her’ in your’ face attitude , looks gorgeous in fact feel she resembles sushmita sen though I hate when people say you look like x , y ,z.thank her for her focused approach towards making our raichak trip happen which I would think was the beginning of our group outings & made me realise how happy I am when I am with u guys. Love her infectious spirit & energy .

Nitin- My traveling partner till he leaves for Chennai, we have discussed about innumerable issues under the sun on our way back home, he has a lust for learning which is quite infectious, hope his passion to travel to offbeat destinations like ulan bator comes true some day, pls don’t let your ideas go to waste .Consider myself lucky to have you as a friend.

Rajdip- Cant forget your introduction on the first day how you laughed after every sentence , never thought that we could be such good friends till we ended up chatting in Radisson the whole night (disturbing mads&Oni),admire your maturity at such a young age at the same time your sense of humour ,. Impressed with your efforts on the bham presentation, hope to see many more .

Raj- Relate to you because of your love for music, theatre , films, traveling and concern for social causes. And of course Some place else, hope ur ideas just don’t disappear in thin air but end up in something concrete. By Jove you are prolific when it comes to writing, after seeing a movie like byathikromi wonder how you could write 1000 words on it.

Satya- The butt of all our Bhaam jokes , know how much u dislike them ,our stress buster in the ever so stressful life in ma foi, you are an asset to your friends, you are genuinely concerned abut them. By the way if any one needs any advice on anything related to exercising or weights he is the one to contact ,he once made a fitness chart for me in 5 minutes which if I had put to use, I could have been a model for the VLCC ads .

There are 2 non ma foites who need to be mentioned about Suangana (ex mafoite) , now a media person has become to busy with her channel going on air on 27 mar that she is not present in most of our hangouts , earlier my sounding board on our way back home, very quiet , there have been 30 minute journeys from office to salt lake where we have spoken for 5 minutes hardly, keen observation and shares my views on women’s lib.
And Anindya Sundar Basu- o don’t think there is a person in cal who does not know him, in our trips to city centre every minute we have come across some body who knows.
Speaks volumes abt his PR skills. Cant forget his rendition of tash goru which is a sure shot solution to any kind of depression

Folks Starting a blog is one thing but continuously , updating and maintaining it has to be a pledge which each of us needs to take .

Wanted to end with a quote close to my heart

Har kisiko muqqammal jahan nahi milta
Kabhi zameen to kabhi aasman nahi milta
Not long ago I had known a boy, who with amazing eyes, used to see all the good things in life while he sat with his parents who had fallen on hard times. There were two worlds for him, the first being the world where people went to five-star deluxe hotels, travelled by jets or air-conditioned railway coaches and who had the pleasure of listening to music as they wished on their system, rather than be at the mercy of All-India-Radio.

The other being, one of 10-14 hours of power shortage and toiling away in front of the burning kerosene lamp and getting to eat rice, curry and sometimes only one vegetable preparation because the earning of the family that month has not been enough. Having only two sets of new dresses for the five-day Durga Puja while everyone else gets five sets for five days. So as the boy sat in the hot general compartment of the train his big eyes would dart across to the black windows of air-conditioned coaches and to the world beyond them. The little mind would start searching for the ways to attain the power to enter into the comfortable coaches. The old bengali refrain of "pora shuno korbe jay, gari-ghoda chorbe shey". Remembering it, the resilience would become stronger to travel the extra inch so that the chances of making it to the dream world becomes sure.

The grit for making it to "big city with blinding lights" became more and more strong. Simple parameters for measuring the progress for the "little boy" would be to aim for the city which has an airport with international flights, though, he would not be travelling but he would be contented by the reality of living in a city which has an airport. Whenever the "little boy" came to the city, he would go to his grandfather's home which was close to the airport, and whenever the sound of a roaring jet would be heard, he would be scampering up the stairs, to the terrace, in order to check whether it was a TAROM Airliner/ British Airways/ the grand dame -Air India or the boring Indian Airlines.

Visits to the Dakshineswar Kali Temple by the family meant that "the little boy" trudged along with his mother to offer his prayers to the goddess. While he was advised by the elders to seek blessings, for performing well in studies and being a good human being, he would secretly ask "Kaali" to end their hardship and give him the opportunity to experience the cherished world.

When the actual day came and the "little boy" became a young man he took the first flight of his life, which to him was a great achievement but for his colleagues another boring flight.

"Maybe this is the difference between a "small boy from a small place" and smart people from bright cities. The sparkle remains in the eyes of the small boy wherever he goes. It is important to keep the sparkle alive, may "The Mother Kaali" grants the sparkle to every little boy from every little place of the world.

Wanna invest in MFs? Beware of the ad trap
Mutual funds are the toast of the season in the world of investment. Fund houses are coming up with new schemes with great fervour and the investors are lapping up every new offer with even greater enthusiasm. As a result, the MFs are garnering record-breaking cash collections with every new fund offer (NFO), while existing schemes are also being offered to the investors. As per the recent data, the new Reliance Equity MF scheme collected a record of more than $1 billion nearly in its NFO, which is the first ever billion-dollar mop up by a new scheme in the India’s mutual fund history. There is nothing wrong with investors showing this unforeseen attraction for mutual funds, especially the equity-focused funds, given the current state of Bull Run continuing for quite some time on the bourses and the recent budget proposals aimed at giving a boost to the MF investments. However, what is a point of concern is the investment premise that is driving this bull run in the MF segment. Market observers believe that investors, especially the retail ones, are mostly following a herd-mentality and are primarily being driven by the greed to cash in on the ongoing record-breaking rally in the equity market - rather than cementing their investment decisions with proper analysis of the market trends. Moreover, investors are falling prey to the advertising and promotional gimmicks of the fund houses which are promising the moon for the investors. More or less, all the fund houses assume that investors are gullible when it comes to investing their hard-earned money - at least the advertising campaigns run by various MF houses suggest in that direction.

Retain your old no with new service
Last week, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) finally recommended that mobile number portability (MNP) will be introduced for cellular subscribers in April 2007 – just over a year from now. This marks a major step in the ongoing evolution of Indian telecom, and could mark a fundamental shift in the business. Once this happens, customers will be able to switch service providers, while keeping the same telephone number. Mobile operators have been opposing the move vehemently, arguing the additional costs of technology and equipment required will make their businesses unviable. TRAI, however, believes that the gains to customers far outweigh the costs, and a free (or very cheap) portability is essential for a free and competitive market. The evidence from other markets proves this view. However, what is inexplicable is the exemption given to land lines. In almost every other country, fixed line number portability preceded or was implemented in parallel with MNP. This smacks of unnecessary protection to the state-owned telecom operators, who dominate the fixed line market.

Madhushree : She is "The Bride" so guys and gals beware, with the swash of the samurai, heads would toss around the room while she would sit on a head and smoke Marlborough. That was what I thought while I saw her in her "benarasi" at her wedding. The only person who can crush back the iron fists of Bhaam and lift him over her head, holding by his tail, swing him around ten times, before letting the centrifugal force take charge. A person who is used as guinea pig by the three of us (Deep, satya, nits) for all our invented jokes, they are tested on her to see the possible effects, before shared with other ladies. Such is the beauty of her heart that I respect her for that and would not like to say anything more.

Doyel : "Its the time 2 disco, kaun miley, dekho kisko" that is the beautiful Doyel for us. Hep, happening, swashbuckling, who feels that the prospective bridegrooms for her do not match up to her standards because they have "Satyendra Satoo" in the morning, prepared by their mothers. Her fingers twists naturally to the beats of rap and I have a wonderful idea of having her accompany me on my trip to West Virginia so when my oldmobile breaks down, I play the rap tune and she will get down with the work on jack. A person who enjoys life and have no complexities and still has all the essence of a complete woman. Let me tell you I found you to be a very attractive lady, the first time, I saw you and was privilidged to sit besides you on the bus.

Rajarshi : "An Absurbd thinking man, who can connect with each mortals". An intellectual and a thinker with amazing range of thoughts. I feel that if he stays in vicinity you will develop a complex, and start with the quest of learning. He can party hard and can give company to all the party lovers in our group. He has a strong head over his shoulder and chances are that either he would do well in corporate or he would become a social activist. He should land among any one of these two. I wish him a strong and successful career with MaFoi Management Consultants Limited.

Satyaban : "Grown -Up Dennis the Menace". I must confess that I have failed to understand this person. Satyabhaamb, is hard to be predicted but one thing is for sure that he would be a very hard task master when he becomes a leader. He will ensure that the work gets done. I have seen periods when his concentration about his job was astounding. When he is working he becomes oblivious to his surroundings and focusses on the job. I feel this is a strength in him upon which he should build upon. Though everybody takes him as a child but I feel for some reasons he has put up a veil upon him and once you remove it you would see a maturity that draws strength from some unknown strong source.

A Film Review

friendz..this is my review abt a flim which Prianka and I went to see........the next day i wrote this following mail.........

I went to see a movie (natak ta dekha holo na) yesterday. A Bengali movie “Baythikromi”-The exception directed by Ahsok Vishwanathan. As all of you (except Priyanka) are aware of my love for analyzing any form of performing art, here is another attempt to do the same. Yes I do believe that if the analysis was documented after a stone (with Rhea or Samiranda) or a drink with (Sayantan or Wendy) or a mere discussion with Sreemoyee (in her perpetually blown state) it would have been a more insightful and illustrious one. But since no one was available so it was me, the film and poetry of thoughts.

Since the time Priyanka (she went with me to the movie, my colleague from Mafoi) dropped me at Park Circus yesterday night after the movie a series of thoughts have been bothering me and the epicenter of them has been the question “WHO DECIDES REASON?” I believe I talked about the concepts of “theater of absurd “to everyone reading the mail. The film was nothing but a reeled version of the same concept.

Absurd means “out of harmony with reason or propriety, unreasonable, illogical” .As Martin Esslin once said “…the theater of absurd tends towards a radical devaluation of language, towards a poetry that is to emerge from the concrete and objectified images of the stage itself. The element of language still plays an important part in this conception but what happens on stage transcends and often contradicts the words spoken by the characters….” Translated in my words this would mean to understand the apparent disconnect between the inner world of the characters and their external world(expressed through dialogues) we need to focus beyond the mere dialogues delivered and the flow of happenings and reach the thought level of the director at his moment of creation . To understand an absurd cinema your wavelength must match with that of the creator at his moment of creation (which essentially is past tense). Don’t worry it happens everyday when we connect to some creation or the other. The first time we understood Newton’s first law we had the connected with Newton at his moment of creation, “the inception of mechanics”.

What is absurd? Something to which we cannot connect at the moment. But if we connect with the same thought say 2 hrs latter, then what is absurd now will no longer continue to be so after 2 hrs. As the rock band Oasis said “its probably all in the mind”. In times of Emperor Akbar human race could not think about mobile communication devises, it was in the realm of absurdity then. But for all of us reading and writing this mail mobile communication is a part of our everyday reality. It’s hard to imagine a life without it. Akbar’s absurdity is our reality today. Absurd form of art is the same it is irritating and boring piece of creation till the point you connect to it. All forms of absurd creation are “genuine works of creative imagination” which transcend the author’s original intentions and present itself as far richer, more complex and open to a multitude of additional interpretations. One such interpretations is about to follow and yes I am aware that any endeavor to arrive at a certain interpretation would be an act of foolishness on my part. My interpretations today may not be matching with my interpretations of the same movie tomorrow. This is true in many occasions but especially so in the realm of absurdity. Because once interpreted today the absurdness of the concept is lost, so when you try to connect tomorrow by rules of absurdity the interpretation must be different as I would be connecting to something which was absurd till that moment and not something that I have already connected to and has moved from my zone of absurdity to reality.

{Baythikromi is a boy meets girl, falls in love and decides to marry. boy comes and stays with the girl’s family. The girl’s family consists of her mother and her married sister. The sister had a miscarriage and since then is not in a very so called normal state of mind. She once had a loving husband who has married again and fantasizes her sister’s husband to be her own. In moments of weakness the sister and the boy makes love and the girl catches them red handed. Since then all of them have been living in the world of alternative reality.)

To me the film is about difficulty of communication between human beings in a world in which everything is uncertain and the borderline between dream and waking is ever shifting. The self absorption of all the characters and their inability to come out of the periphery of their own existence and say a proper “HELLO” to others around them is the basic theme of the film. The film lacks both characters and plot in conventional sense because it tackles its subject matter at a level where neither characters nor plots exist. That explains the irritating disconnect in the sequential flow from one scene to another. At times one notices the apparent irrational movements on the actors part(e.g. they suddenly start dancing with a tea cup in hand, the boy and girl starts kissing even when everybody is present in the dinning table and in the next scene they are standing at two ends of the table. These are essentially moments when the movie goes beyond the mere actions of characters and concentrates more on the “icchay korchey ” part of the characters. It’s like the happiness of being able to connect to someone creates a ripple of joy for the moment and is projected in the form of dance mudras. Then when reality strikes everything is back to normal i.e. the communication is disrupted and everyone returns to his or he’s own shell of self absorption.

The absurd movies are not events with a definite beginning or a definite end but type of situations that will forever repeat themselves. The false notion of communication that we live with is depicted in scenes like the couple coming out of restaurant and find a magician exhibiting his skill in front of an audience. Then with time when the characters move out of the false notion the magician appears again this time alone still exhibiting his skills but to himself. The communication is with the within. Through out the film there are paintings of self absorption.

In the first half of the film though the actors were not being able to connect but they were happy with the false notion that they are being able to connect. But as the film progresses towards the end and the actors realizes the truth that they have never been able to connect, they are tormented. In their own torment state they become even more self absorbed and in the end accept the reality. Once they accepted the reality all they concentrated in doing was to connect to themselves depicted in the last scene when all of them are dancing to the flow of music. “Baythikromi” is a work of art about the expression of an incommunicable reality that Ashok VIshwanathan tries to communicate .That is the film’s paradox and its reality.

The most striking dialogue in the film is by an insignificant character who says “some people who don’t know anything about madness or are not mad themselves are breaking their head to cure madness”. It reminds me of Paulo Coelho’s “Veronica decides to die”. The denial of the existence of alternative reality by a greater population of “sensible” people and their futile attempts to cure the same. The film ends with the actors introducing to the doctor the alternative world of human reality. It’s a world where all the peoples are powerful enough to choose their own reality, in which they are happy depicted by singing and dancing to the universal flow of music. The film still continues to haunt me even at this hour with the question “WHO DECIDES REASON?”

I throw the forum open for more light ……………

Priyanka : "nebulous creation which is shrouded in mystery and ever evolving", needs to have a customised FIRO-B to understand her (Mads!). Comes as an easy going person who in the first instance may be taken as a simple-happy-go-lucky individual, but spend some time, and one will know the depths she can go to. Sometimes she gets lost in her own world, you may have her by your side but she may not be there as her soul has walked away!

Rajdeep : "King of Hearts and Good Times" a person who is so nice that words are inadequate to express him. Has natural leadership qualities and can handle adverse situation calmly. I would not be surprised if someday he becomes a businessman, a successful one. He is a person on whom one can trust to get a job done. The quality of his thinking and his compassion comes out when he is witness to poverty, hardship or suffering. I have tried to learn customer service from him.

hey guyzzz...

I thought for quite sometime about what I should write and share. Then I understood that I am so lucky to be surrounded with such talented and innovative thinkers.

Before writing about my buddies I would like to share about my feelings a little.I feel that no man can be happy without a friend, nor can he value the friend and be sure of the friendship till he is unhappy.I feel that we are still at a stage where we share our happy moments together but we are yet to reach the level where with out any hesitation we'll share the grieves or problems of another.
About my frnds,

Nitin : A guy with no complexities..he is the person who has not lost his childlike heart and follows his heart because he feels it knows the way..he is creative and knowledgable...sometimes funny as well.. last but not the least.. he is a good buddy of mine.

Doyel :a fun loving bubbly person with a heart of gold.... she always puts others feelings before her own and hates conflicts(even though she causes most of it ) ;-)..Very very good at writing and very talented. Does not think much of her looks even though she is extremely pretty..she has got an affinity on piercing her ears evry now and then.

Rajarshi : A new member... always have a smiling face & it seems that he is well-matched to the harmony of the team(full of crazy buddies)..

Madhushree :She touches the people with her fun loving ways and super personality. She is such a wonderful person... She is trying to loose weight by eating less(its a futile effort although) but i think she is burning out more on her calories with the help of "Kanch Kanch".

Rajdeep : My Punch bag(best buddy).. A very nice human being with good sense of humour(not better than me ofcourse). Always comes up with a helping hand.. recently concentrating in family planning.. good at his (relevant/irrelevant)presentation skills..

Priyanka : (T.) An unique friend..A person highly sensitive ,vulnerable, sweet and slightly unpredictable..obssessed with work..It is a little hard to get to know her..She is one of those very few friends in our lives who not only give us pleasure in their company, but also provides enough support. She is also very honest about her opinions..She can be extremely helpful but sometimes can be quite scary though she doesen't mean to be...A true person by heart.... & i feel there is lot more yet to be discovered abt her.

"Life is sweet because of the friends we have made
And the things which in common we share;
We want to live on, not only because of ourselves,
But also because of the ones who would care.
It's living and doing for somebody else
On that all of life's splendor depends,
And the joy of it all, when we count it all up,
Is found in the making of friends."

Thanks for being there always.. lets cherish the memories together..
Please do keep in touch.
